There’s something really magical about Deepika Padukone dancing. I mean, the grace with which she dances feels like a dream come true. Especially when it comes to traditional dance forms. Didn’t we skip a heart beat when we saw her in Nagada song from Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela? Or say Deewani Mastani from Bajirao Mastani? Ghoomar song from Padmavati looks no different for deepika is a vision to watch as the insanely beautiful Rani Padmavati. No seriously! Few seconds into the song and you’ll be left speechless, not knowing what’s more enticing – Deepika’s eyes, her smile or just how graciously she’s taken over your heart and soul with that unimaginable beauty on display. Yet again, Deepika has managed to leave us mesmerised and how!
Indeed, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali has gone an extra mile to ensure Ghoomar turns out to become the most riveting song
sequence he has ever shot. From what we hear, Deepika did over 66 twirls while shooting for the song, dressed in an extravagant costume and adorned in heavy jewelry. She learned the dance form under the tutelage of renowned Ghoomar expert Jyoti D Tommaar, who runs the only authentic Ghoomar school, founded by Late Padmashree HH Rajmata Geverdan Kumariji of Santrampur (former Princess of Kishangarh, Rajasthan). “It has been one of the most difficult song sequences that Sanjay sir and I have shot for. The shooting of the film began with this song and I will never forget that day. I remember approaching my mark for the first shot and suddenly, I felt a chill run through my body. It was almost as if Padmavati’s soul had entered my body. That feeling still lingers and will continue for years to come.” said Deepika when she was asked to comment on her experience performing on one of the toughest dance forms for Padmavati.
Slated to release on December 1, Padmavati also stars Ranveer Singh as Allaudin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Padmavati’s husband Maharawal Ratan Singh.
