Golmaal Again is doing stellar business at the box office. Its multi-star cast did help, so did the general appeal of masala comedies but the movie is also receiving good word-of-mouth promotion which is working in its favour. After opening at Rs 30.14 crore, the movie, which stars Ajay Devgn, parineeti chopra and Tabu, has raked in Rs 28.37 crore, taking the total collection to an impressive Rs 58.51 crore.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the figures of this ‘unstoppable’ movie and said,” #GolmaalAgain is UNSTOPPABLE… Heading for a HUMONGOUS weekend… Fri 30.14 cr, Sat 28.37 cr. Total: ₹ 58.51 cr. India biz… ROCKING!”
It is not as if this Rohit Shetty directorial with its mass appeal is eating into Secret Superstar’s share. The latter is the only major competition of Golmaal Again and the film seems to be doing well at the box office. We can, therefore, conclude that Bollywood is recovering after some major box-office failures.
In her review of Golmaal Again, Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta had said, “For someone like me, no fan of the franchise, there’s usually very little to like in the ‘Golmaal’ films. And this time around too, I had resigned myself to a couple of hours of deja-view. But I have to say that the addition of a few new faces, and moving the location from the beaches of Goa to the green slopes of Ooty, helped freshen things up. And though there were the familiar risible lines about people who can’t speak, and a creepy running thread about older men and girls young enough to be their daughter, the usual slew of jokes were not as tasteless. A couple led to actual laughter.”
