This festive season, Tamil Nadu box office has been hit by the Mersal storm! At the end of the long weekend, it is safe say thalapathy vijay’s film has dominated the movie scene all the way. At the Chennai Box office, the film has taken over the first three positions followed by Golmaal Again and Meeyadha Maan at the 4th and 5th position respectively. Clearly Mersal is dominating the scene. It is the movie of the festive season! At the end of five days the film has earned Rs 6.90 crore. Thalapathy Vijay is ruling the roost. Despite mixed reviews the film has performed phenomenally at the Box office, especially at the overseas front. The film at the end of five days has grossed Rs 100 crores. It continues to fare phenomenally in Malaysian, Australian, UK and New Zealand markets. While this is good news for the film, the movie has found itself in quite a few controversies post release.

A certain political has taken to the film mocking the concept of GSAT too well and attacked the film, in response. Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and some political leaders have come out in support of the film and stated that the film should not be re-censored. Doctors have also gone against the film as it showed the medical industry in negative light. In reaction to the story, they have shared pirated links and leaked Mersal. Notwithstanding controversies the film continues to reign the box office and Thalapathy continues be praised for his stellar performance. What it remains to be seen if the film will break Vivegam’s record. As of now it’s the biggest Tamil release this season.
