One of the biggest releases of the year, Rajinikanth‘s Kaala has finally hit the screens and looks like the film has started off well. Yesterday (June 7), the Tamil version of the film released across India along with a few selected screening of the Hindi and Telugu versions. And finally today (June 8), it hit the big screens on a full fledged scale and from the looks of it, the movie is going to have a blockbuster opening. According to our trade expert – Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor), the film will rake in nearly Rs 40 crore at the domestic box office through all the three versions.
While talking to us about Kaala‘s performance at the box office in an ideal scenario, Akshaye mentioned to us, “Kaala should make a bare minimum amount of Rs 35 – 40 crore on day one through all the versions (Hindi, Tamil and Telugu). In fact, it will earn Rs 5 crore plus from the Hindi version itself on the first day, which is fantastic. And if the word of mouth publicity is decent, it will easily cross the Rs 100 crore mark over the first weekend. Sky is the limit for a Rajinikanth film, so we will have to wait and watch for the official figures.”
However, these figures might differ owing to the situation in Karnataka. The film was banned in the state and even after the High Court’s verdict overruling the ban, it has not released in Karnataka yet.
