Sonam Kapoor's wedding trousseau creation was an emotional affair for everyone in team bride
Bollywood fashionista Sonam Kapoor’s wedding with Anand Ahuja was a dreamy affair. While she is known as a trend-setter when it comes to clothes, beau Anand who is an apparel entrepreneur also has a great sense of semi formal – sporty style. Fashion critics were eagerly observing what surprises Sonam would spring on her wedding and the lady did not disappoint us. While favourites Abu Jani – Sandeep Khosla and Anamika Khanna designed her mehendi and reception outfits, the surprise was in the form of the gorgeous red Anuradha Vakil wedding lehenga. Sonam chose the A-league designer who is known for her path-breaking work in Indian textiles. Makeup artiste and friend Namrata Soni created the looks. It was an emotional occasion for team bride. Soni told Vogue India that Sonam who was radiating happiness looked as delicate as a flower in her wedding finery. Here is decoding Sonam’s looks from the five stunning ceremonies….
Sangeet practice day
The first event had Sonam applying mehendi to her hands and feet. She chose a pastel-hued sharara for the occasion. Soft rosy pink and lilac were the colours in the heavily embellished suit that had intricate brocade and gotta patti work done on it. It was designed by Anuradha Vakil, who specialises in Indian wear, especially the handcrafted ones. When it comes to handloom and luxury, Vakil is at the forefront amongst Indian designers. It was teamed with statement earrings and her hair was left loose with a middle parting. The beau wore a Raghavendra Rathore outfit.
Mehendi
This was by far, the most loved look of all. She wore a white and gold gilded lehenga, which took the artisans 18 months to make. It has distinct work in chikankari. Abu Jani told Vogue that she ordered it two years back. He said, “This ensemble is a labour of love and joy. Sonam is our absolute favourite and for her wedding, it had to be a fantasy piece that set new creative standards for us in order to do full justice to her and this sacred occasion. She ordered it two years ago and it’s taken multiple teams of artisans eighteen months to create.” It was paired with white and gold jewellery that included a maang tikka and choker from her mom’s collection. The mogra flowers in her braid just added to her beauty. Makeup artiste Namrata Soni told Vogue India, “For the makeup, we kept it very simple and pretty with beautiful bronze eyes, a simple black winged eyeliner and a pink blush with pink lipstick. We’ve only highlighted the eyes on the face and kept the rest of it very soft; it was a very traditional look.” When the first pictures came out, we were just staring at her gorgeousness. Anand Ahuja also wore a white chikankari outfit made by Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla’s men’s collection that had an emerald brooch.
Anand Karaj ceremony
Sonam went totally traditional for the ceremony. The red and gold outfit had a The bride wore a bright red Anuradha Vakil lehenga with a gold border. It was adorned with Lotus and star motifs. She teamed it with a stunning mathapatti and Guttapulasu necklace that gave a vintage Maharani look. She was styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania for the big day. Namrata Soni did the makeup and hair with assistance from Arti Nayar. The makeup had soft peach cheeks, red tinted lip and slightly dramatic eyes as revealed by Soni to Vogue. The outfit was finished off by shoes from Jimmy Choo. She opted for flats with crystals on them. Anand Ahuja wore a tan bandhgala from Raghavendra Rathore’s collection.
Wedding luncheon
Sonam made a quick change for the lunch that followed the Anand Karaj ceremony. She donned a pastel pink Anamika Khanna lehenga with lots of thread work in gold and silver. She had a bun with lots of mogra flowers and a huge kundan jhumkas. Sadly, there are not many good pictures of that look.
Reception
The fashionista wore a lehenga from Anamika Khanna’s label, which was quite edgy. The ivory white and snuff coloured lehenga had geometric patterns and gold glaze work. It was teamed with a cape style jacket that looked like a dupatta. She finished it off with a multi-strand polki necklace. Namrata Soni gave her a low maintenance contemporary look with sleek hair, bright red lip and long winged eyeliner. Raghavendra Rathore’s blue bandhgala was Anand’s chosen outfit.
BTW, Sonam’s close Tamara Ralph from the label Ralph and Russo was also in India for the wedding. She had packed in 35 outfits to be safe for the occasions. Surely, Sonam’s wedding looks are sheer inspiration for brides in 2018 and in the coming years. While she did not have a destination wedding, it was as exquisite as it could be.
