Missing Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary by two days, the makers of Bioscopewala have released the first trailer of the film online. The drama is based on the popular story by Tagore, titled Kabuliwala. I am sure that you have read the story, back in school in your literature curriculum. The movie is a new spin on the story and takes it forward from where it ends in the book. Kabuliwala is named Bioscopewala and has been played by Danny Denzongpa, who seems to have breathed life into the fictional character.

The movie also stars Adil Hussain, Tisca Chopra and Geetanjali Thapa alongside Danny. The technical support is by a crew that includes director of photography Rafey Mahmood, sound designer Resul Pookutty and editor Dipika Kalra, among others. With that exceptionally brilliant team at bay, you sure can expect Bioscopewala to be an enjoyable one. The trailer also paints the same picture.

Bioscopewala looks like a movie that has been shot very well. The mellow background music in the trailer is only adding more charm to it. In the modern retelling, when a famous photographer goes missing on a plane to Kabul, his daughter flies back to India to try and understand why he was going there. An Afghan ‘bioscopewala’ released from the prison is the missing piece in the puzzle.

Directed by Deb Medhekar, Bioscopewala was the only Indian film in competition under the Asian Future section at the 30th Tokyo International Film Festival. Bioscopewala had its world premiere at the prestigious film festival, which was held from October 25 to November 3.
In an interview, producer Sunil Doshi has said that he is delighted that a classic short story written in the 19th century by Rabindranath Tagore is still finding its relevance in the “current time of turbulence and borderless world facing refugee and immigrant crisis”.
