Prabhas and Rana Daggubati's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion had a disappointing first weekend at the China box office!

Prabhas and Rana Daggubati‘s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is one of the biggest Indian films till date. The movie has broken nearly all the box office records in India. And as it released in China, everyone expected it to go on a record breaking run, especially after the super success of other film in the country. However, looks like, Baahubali 2 had a rather lacklustre first weekend! In fact, even after a decent start, the movie failed to see a decent growth. The numbers even dropped on day 3 (Sunday) as Baahubali 2managed to rake in just $7.80 million at the China box office. Talking about the detailed breakdown of collections, trade analyst and industry tracker – Ramesh Bala revealed on Twitter, “#Baahubali2InChina grosses $7.80 Million [Rs 52.12 Crore] for the 1st weekend. Previews – $0.02 Million, Fri – $2.41 Million, Sat – $2.94 Million, Sun – $2.43 Million.”

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion had a huge buzz surrounding it as it released in China. And with 7000 plus screens at it’s disposal, we thought the film would earn a massive amount of more than Rs 100 crore over the first weekend. However, it could manage only half the predicted amount! This might be due to the fact that it has hit the screens in China more than a year since it’s actual release in India. Half of the Chinese audience might have seen the pirated version of the film by now. Apart from this, the fact that the first part, Baahubali: The Beginning wasn’t a hit too, might also be a factor. The audience might not know about the first part and hence, might not be able to connect with the second part. Also, the genre might not be appealing to them.

So quite clearly, Baahubali 2 has a disappointing start at the China box office. But with the market being so unpredictable, you never know, it might see a decent hold over the first week. However, with Avengers: Infinity War releasing this week (May 11), Baahubali 2‘s prospects of surviving in the Chinese market looks bleak. So stay tuned to here as we get you all the updates about Baahubali 2‘s run at the China box office right here.
