It's been a year since Indian cinema's biggest blockbuster - Baahubali 2 hit theatres.

On 28th April 2017, a magnum opus revolutionised Indian cinema once and for all. While the buzz around this film was huge, owing to the first part’s success, nobody imagined the second part would catapult to unimaginable height on its release. If the first part was a grand success, the second was roaring! The reach, popularity, and impact doubled two-fold with Part 2. The movie in question is obviously Baahubali; The Conclusion. As of today, it has been 365 days since Baahubali 2’s blockbuster release but the movie, believe it or not, continues to make waves even now! Yes, a year after its release the movie is still talked about for its concept, box office figures and for lead star Prabhas’ performance. As Baahubali 2 completes a year today, let’s look back at 5 things that we will always talk about when it comes to Rajamouli’s magnum opus:

Amarendra Bahaubali aka Prabhas – After watching Part 2, the one character fans couldn’t stop gushing about was Amarendra Baahubali, the king of Mahishmati, Shivudu’s father. While Prabhas made a lasting impression as Shivudu, he truly rose to the occasion when it came to Amarendra. His demeanor, his intimidating body language,  his towering presence, his undeniable charm made him one of the most powerful on-screen characters. Prabhas the Telugu star was forgotten as he brought to life the fictitious character of Amarendra Baahubali. His fan base doubled twofold after his performance as Amarendra. Does that surprise you?

Devasena – In the first part, we first caught a glimpse of Devasena, the mother of Shivudu. Although she was in chains and imprisoned and tortured,  she had an undying spark about her. In Part 2, we went twenty years back where Devasena was the skillful warrior princess of a tiny kingdom. Her skill and renowned beauty cast a spell on Amarendra and since then there was a no looking back. As Devasena, Anushka Shetty was a marvel. She played the powerful woman who had a mind of her own, to perfection. Here was a woman, who was anything but delicate. Her act as the passionate, loyal, skilled Queen was a class apart.

Box office records – Apart from performances, Baahubali will always be known for its incredible box office figures. The historical drama raked in more than Rs 100 crore on Day 1 itself. At the end of ten days, it became the first film to enter the Rs 1000 crore club. It became the first film to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the North American box office. It is the highest earning Telugu film at the US box office. The movie became a box office benchmark for all Indian films. It was the biggest blockbuster of all time in 2017. So far, only Dangal has managed to race ahead of this film. But with Baahubali 2’s release in China on May 4, we can expect the film to take the number one position again.

SS Rajamouli – Hats off to SS Rajamouli for daring to take on a novel concept and seeing it through after working on it for five years! He was a man on a mission. And the results are for us to see. Baahubali changed the face of cinema as it exhibited exemplary VFX, grand sets, compelling visuals, and incredible action stunts. The movie was the trendsetter for grand magnum opuses.

Social media craze – Post its blockbuster success in 2017, the movie dominated all year-end records. It became the most talked about film on Twitter. Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia entered IMDb’s top list of Indian actors. Baahubali 2 was the no 2 movie on the list of top 10 Indian films. It was the only Indian film that entered the list of Google’s most searched films!  Recently at the 65th National Awards, the movie was conferred with honours yet again. The film has been screened in multiple countries. As per the latest news, the movie will release in China on May 4.
