Alia Bhatt on her role in Raazi: Best part is that this character

The first trailer of Meghna Gulzar’s upcoming film Raazi will be released tomorrow. The movie, based on the book Calling Sehmat, stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role. In this period espionage drama, she will be seen playing the role of an Indian spy married to a Pakistani. Just the brief of the role sounds intriguing and it seems like a tough role to pull off. As per Alia, it was indeed tough. The actress opened up about her role in an interview with TOI and said, “For me, the best part is that this character is not a Lara Croft. She’s a young, naive girl, who decides to risk her life for her country.” Lara Croft is a popular video game character turned movie-heroine, who is known for her action sequences. Just this year, we saw Alicia Vikander play the titular character in the movie reboot of Tomb Raider.

Alia has put in her soul to play this unconventional role. We saw Preity Zinta play a similar role in the film The Hero -Love Story of a Spy, for which she had to undergo physical training for a few scenes. Alia takes the difficulty level a step forward. She not only learnt to speak in Urdu but also learned to communicate via morse code. “It was something Meghna believed that I should do authentically, and I feel that it helped me get perfectly into the character. One could have argued that kisi ko kya pata chalega, but we had to be as authentic as possible,” she said. Alia seems to have made a very brave choice with Raazi.

The makers have been teasing with pictures since the day Raazi went on floors last year. The first three detailed posters of the film, though, were only released today. We get a look at Alia’s relationship with her father in the movie. And we also see her walking hand in hand with Vicky Kaushal, who plays her husband in the film. In one of the posters, we can see the INS Viraat, which piques our curiosity about the plot of the film.
