chris hemsworth's thor: ragnarok has set the domestic box office on fire on day one!

chris hemsworth‘s thor: ragnarok hit the screens yesterday (November 03) and looks like it has set the box office on fire. Not only has it got good reviews, but it is also raking in large amounts of moolah at the ticket window. In fact, after a decent opening occupancy of 30 per cent in 1500 screens across India, the film grew in the evening and late night shows to end day one on a high. With that, Thor: Ragnarok managed to rake in Rs 7.73 crore on the first day, which is fantastic to say the least. But wait there’s more! The film has also managed to take the second highest opening of 2017 for a Hollywood film in India. Only Fate of the Furious has a bigger opening than this movie in 2017 in India. Talking about the opening day collections, trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed on Twitter, “#ThorRagnarok has one of the best starts for Hollywood films in India. Fri Rs 7.73 crore Nett. Gross Box Office Collection: Rs  9.91 crore. India biz.”

Apart from being the second highest Hollywood opener of 2017 in India, thor: ragnarok has also become the highest opener of the franchise in India. In fact, the opening day collection of this film is three times its prequel (Thor: The Dark World). Ain’t that cool? The franchise factor and the amazing word of mouth publicity has helped the film, but we cannot discount the content. The film is really fantastic and has impressed almost all the critics. Our film critic – Sreeju Sudhakaran also mentioned in his review, “Thor: Ragnarok is definitely one of the most gorgeous-looking and as well the funniest Marvel movie till date. Chris Hemsworth’s charming performance, a really strong supporting cast and Taika Waititi’s confident direction make for one entertaining superhero movie with dollops of humour.”

Our trade expert – Akshaye Rathi (exhibitor and distributor) had predicted the film to earn Rs 5 – 6 crore on day one, but looks like Thor: Ragnarokhas performed better than what we all expected. It should collect in excess of Rs 20 crore over the first weekend. Anyway, did you like the movie? Share with us your review in the comments section below!
