It has also become the fifth south Indian film after Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, Kabali, and Enthiran to enter the elite club.
Mersal has become the first film of Thalapathy Vijay to enter the Rs. 250 crore club with its worldwide gross. It has also become the fifth south Indian film after Baahubali: The Beginning, Baahubali: The Conclusion, Kabali, and Enthiran to enter the elite club. The movie has already surpassed Rajinikanth’s long-held record of Enthiran gross in Tamil Nadu and is currently only behind SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 with a reported share of Rs. 66.4 crores until November 21st.
Now, the expectations are soaring high for Vijay’s next project with AR Murugadoss, fondly called by fans as Thalapathy 62. The pre-production work is going on in full swing in Bengaluru, where ARM and his team of assistants have started fine-tuning the final version of the script, which will be narrated to Vijay soon. Sources say Murugadoss is currently in talks with a handful of lead heroines to be paired opposite Vijay in the film.
“Murugadoss is eyeing for a fresh pair for Vijay. Hence, he is carefully looking out for options. He has even considered Vikram Vedha composer Sam CS to score the music for the film to bring some fresh and young perspective,” informs a source in the know.
Mersal got mired in a lot of controversies when it was released due to Vijay anti-GST dialogues in the film. BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu called for a ban on the movie, citing ‘factual inaccuracy’ as the reason. The movie also faced hiccups from Censor Board of Film Certification and Animal Welfare Board of India before it successfully hit the screens on October 18th for the Diwali festival. The movie directed by Atlee marked Vijay’s association with the young filmmaker after Theri.
