Despite the controversies unfurling around the thalpapathy‘s Mersal, the film continues to the storm the TN box office. As per the latest update, the film has grossed Rs 76 crore! If the film continues with this momentum the movie will hit the Rs 100 crore mark in the next two days. The film got off to a phenomenal start on day 1 as it collected a whopping Rs Rs 43.50 crore  at the worldwide market. In fact, the movie beat Vivegam and Kabali’s day 1 collection at the Chennai Box office as the film earned Rs 1.50 crore on its first day. The film domnitaed the Chennai box office this festive season. The movie is also performing phenomenally at the Singapore, Malaysia, UK, Australian and US markets. From the looks of it the movie has turned out a winner but it remains to be seen if the film will recover its exorbitant Rs 130 crore budget.

Last week, Mersal was in the news as the film mocked the government’s concept of GST, It also showed the medical industry in poor light. In reaction to this, a certain political party attacked the film and doctors shared pirated links of the movie. AS per the latest update, a petition has been filed to cancel the censor certificate. Controversy or not, the film is performing phenomenally. Vijay’s classy yet massy act and Atlee’s stellar direction are the highlights of Mersal. The supporting cats has also put on a great show.

Here’s an excerpt from our review. If a film starring Thalapathy Vijay wasn’t enough, there comes along a class young director to make the experience even better. Atlee’s eye for the lesser-known yet relevant details comes across beautifully in this movie. His rich visual sense lends beauty to this massy-entertainer. Apart from enhancing the visual experience, he wants you to feel for the scene rather than just watch it unfold before you. The powerful kaleidoscope of images that Atlee creates, holds your attention as much as Thalapathy does, if not more
