Behold, Golmaal Again!
With Rs 143.33 crore under its belt, golmaal again has claimed the top spot in just 9 days. It is now the highest grossing Bollywood film of this year. If you take into account all the hits of this year, it comes second to Baahubali 2 now who has more than Rs 500 crore in its kitty. But that doesn’t dilute Golmaal Again’s humongous achievement. It only took 8 days to become the richest Hindi film of this year. Only recently we shared with you a tally of the highest grossers of this year and now we will have to reshuffle it as Judwaa 2 lost its position to Golmaal Again.
Rohit Shetty had said that this franchise is his fixed deposit. While talking to Mid-Day, the director had said, “I want this team with me whenever I make a Golmaal outing. There will be many [instalments]. This is our FD [fixed deposit]. We’ll keep it going. I don’t have a plan in mind for the fifth part, and am not even certain of the genre, but, it will be bigger than this one.” It truly turned out to be a fixed deposit for him. After a not-so-great Dilwale, he needed something to redeem himself and Golmaal Again rescued him. In fact, this film didn’t even have his trademark blowing up of cars and still worked. That means he doesn’t really need to do that to get his film to do lucrative business at the box office.
Together with Secret Superstar, Golmaal Again has brought in much cheer this Diwali. Bollywood needed a Friday like that where all the movies that released made money. The first week business of both the film itself made nearly Rs 177.66 crore. Clearly, these two films have found an audience and became hits in their own right.
