Unlike Ranveer's Regal Appearance, Raza's Look Is Quite Muted

Last night, after Ranveer Singh shared his Alauddin Khilji look from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film, Padmavati, Twitter went berserk over how menacing the actor had managed to look. Both, the poster and the first look, suggest that Ranveer will be seen in a role that’s all black, with no shades of grey. And we have one more reason to believe so.

Veteran actor, Raza Murad, who was a permanent fixture in films of the ’90s, is a part of Padmavati too. And after Alauddin Khilji was introduced to the world, he decided to reveal his look from the film as well.  The actor plays the role of Jallaudin Khilji in the film. Jalauddin Khilji was the first ruler of the Khilji dynasty in India. However, his character is important because it adds to the menace of Alauddin Khilji. History states that the emperor was killed by his son-in-law, Alauddin, who then replaced him on the throne. How wicked is that!

Sharing the pic on his Facebook page, Raza wrote, “this is my look in sanjay leela bhansali’s “padmavati”.i am playing jalaluddin khilji who was the first ruler of khilji dynasty in india.he ruled india(1290-1296)for six years and was killed by his paternal nephew and son in law, allauddin khilji, who took over the throne after killing his uncle and father in law.ranveer singh has played allaudin khilji.padmavati is obviously deepika padukone and shahid kapoor is rawal ratan singh, ruler of chittor, deepika’s husband.the film would be released on 1st december, all over the world.”

However, coming to Jalauddin’s look. Unlike Ranveer’s regal appearance, Raza’s look is quite muted, despite both playing the role of an emperor. Given the Turkish origins of the dynasty, Raza’s look incorporates a lot of elements that are characteristic of Middle-East Asia. Right from the fur-lined coat to the uncut stones on his turban and neck pieces – everything is symbolic of the land of mysteries. He was the first ruler from the Khilji dynasty to take over the Delhi Sultanate and was probably more influenced by his roots, as opposed to his successors to the throne. The designers have denoted this with a look that’s very Turkish. However, Alauddin, who seems to be a narcissist, was much more royal in his appearance. The use of gleaming green stones signifies the same. It is perhaps, less to do with the fashion of the era and more about the person that Allaudin Khilji was.

However, what’s funny is that he has now deleted the post from his Facebook account, making us wonder if he hadn’t sought the makers’ permission before sharing the look online.

Anyway, tell us how did you like Raza’s look from the film.
