Shubh Mangal Saavdhan music review: The album for Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar’s romcom packs a melodious punch

with just four songs, shubh mangal saavdhan has a winner of a soundtrack!

One of the interesting movies to watch out in the coming days is SHUBH MANGAL SAAVDHAN. A remake of the Tamil hit Kalyana Samayal Saadham, the movie stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead. It will be one of the very rare mainstream movies made in India that deals with the topic of erectile dysfunction without making a crass comedy out of it. The movie is directed by RS Prasanna who also helmed the original, while Aanand L Rai is the co-producer of the movie. Tanishk-Vayu composed as well as wrote the lyrics for the short soundtrack, . Here’s our review of the album…

Rocket Saiyyan

It’s quite whimsical that shubh mangal saavdhanis about a couple dealing with erectile dysfunction and the first song is called ‘Rocket’ Saiyan. That’s a laugh for sure. Anyway, Rocket Saiyyan is quite a peppy, fun song that will instantly win you over at the first listen itself, be it with the composition or the lyrics. Ritu Pathak’s sprightly singing completely owns the song, and she gets some really good support from Brijesh Shandilya and Tanishk Baagchi.

Kanha

Perhaps, since the director RS Prasanna is from Tamil Nadu, KANHA has that delectable, lovely South Indian touch, with some classical strains. Yes, Kanha is a winner for sure, but it is not exactly a very serious song. The music is simply melodious and you will love the lyrics that talks about the yearnings of first love, with Shashaa Tirupati singing it wonderfully. Any drawbacks? It’s too short! There is also an unplugged version that is sung by Ayushmann Khurrana, which is equally beautiful. While it’s too early to say if Kanha is SMS’s Moh Moh Ke Dhaage, it certainly is very close!

Laddoo

You have heard this song in the trailer, and might have loved it. LADDOO continues to implement the fun vibe heard in the previous songs in the album, with Mika making it all the more enjoyable with his characteristic singing. Tanishk-Vayu seems to be having a whale of time composing Laddoo as well as writing those really quirky lyrics. Will be fun to watch Laddoo on screen!

Our verdict

Why does quality stuff come in small doses? That’s one drawback I have to point out about the Shubh Mangal Saavdhan album. With just four songs (including the unplugged version of Kanha), Shubh Mangal Saavdhan has a winner of a soundtrack, too bad it ends as soon as it begins. But you will definitely savour every song in the album like the freshly made Laddoo’s during a wedding.
