The trailer has mostly favoured the good natured, boy next door Prem (varun dhawan), however, this song is all about Raja and his relationship with Bappa. Just like how Amitabh Bachchan from Amar Akbar Anthony spoke to Jesus and even bartered with him. What Varun as Raja shares with Ganpati bappa is similar and might we add, very endearing. We must say, they’ve found quite the right time to release this track. With Varun’s tapori swag and funky dance moves, we’re sure that this song is set to become the visarjan anthem this year! Just as the teaser promised, the actor is his bringing out the best of Raja.
For those who remember Salman Khan’s film, would recognise that Varun’s Raja rendition is quite apt. While Salman’s charm is still tough to ape but we’re not really expecting it from Varun. Sung by Amit Mishra, the track is super peppy and brings out the energy one requires when celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi. The lyrics have been penned down by Danish Shabri and while the song does hold the kind of mad energy, can’t say the lyrics make much of sense. It goes like this, ‘Suno Ganpati bappa morya, pareshan kare mujhe choriyan.’ A little inappropriate for a divine song, won’t you agree? But then again, since the song is to bring out the relationship Raja shares with the god, perhaps he’s just being honest about his problems in this conversation.
The video is focused only on Raja. We’re assuming that this is his introductory track. Considering how David Dhawan’s films have been, we’re convinced that this song has been blended in to introduce Raja to the audience. You see, his personality is all over the video. The wicked smile, the kitschy style, the mad energy and the rowdy but cute charm. It all adds up to the character that he is playing. Oh and we sure are going to love it. From what we’ve seen in the video, the Ganpati song leads to a fight between Raja and the bad guys. You can check out the video below.
Set to release on September 29, the film also stars Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu as the female leads. Since Dhawan plays a double role in the movie, father David has found the right match for him. Evidently, Jacky will be playing Karisma Kapoor’s role in the sequel while Taapsee will take over Rambha’s spot. What are your thoughts about the song?
