After a disappointing weekend, Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma‘s Jab Harry Met Sejal failed to sustain over the first week. The film has ended the opening week with a disastrous box office collection of just Rs 59.65 crore in seven days. Surprisingly, the movie managed to earn only Rs 13.90 crore over the week, even with a semi-holiday (Rakshabandhan) in between. Considering that this was a Shah Rukh Khan film, this is a very disappointing scenario. Joginder Tuteja also confirmed the fate of Jab Harry Met Sejal, when he had tweeted, “Box Office: #JabHarryMetSejal has a disastrous Week One of Rs. 60 crore* (early estimates).”
With a decent screen space (it was released in 3100 screens), two fantastic stars, a good buzz and trending tunes, we expected jab harry met sejal to perform better. We had expected it to rake in Rs 70-80 crore at the end of the first week, but looks like the film will end up with a lifetime collection of that much. With such a low lifetime collection, we don’t expect Jab Harry Met Sejal to make any profit at all, it might just end up breaking even. The movie’s dismal run at the box office has to be attributed to the poor content. The critics as well as the movie-goers gave it mixed reviews. The plot and execution did not impress them and hence, a poor word of mouth publicity could not help it perform at the box office.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the movie tells the tale of how Harry (Shah Rukh Khan) and Sejal (Anushka Sharma) fall in love while on a trip around Europe to find Sejal’s missing engagement ring.
