toilet ek prem katha is making a lot of money at the box office.

akshay kumar‘s toilet: ek prem katha has put an end to the lull period at the box office and how! It was expected to make tremendous numbers and it managed to do just that. Now it has been proved that when it’s Akshay Kumar, you can totally bank on him to earn dividends for you. In fact, box office wise, the film doesn’t even need the tax free status to earn money because it is anyway going great guns at the box office. In five days, it has already made Rs 83.45 crore which is a big sum, considering the film was made at a budget of Rs 18-20 crore only. Being an Independence Day release, the film also saw a huge jump on I-day by earning Rs 20 crore which has also made it the fourth highest number for an I-day release.

Interestingly, Akshay beat his own film, rustom, to acquire that spot at the box office. What is even more interesting is that given the fact that his movies mostly release around Independence Day, the tally has more of his films than any other. But Ek Tha Tiger, which had released in 15 August 2012, still takes the top spot having amassed Rs 32.93 crore. Ajay Devgn’s Singham Returns also was left unbeaten by TEPK and so was Akshay’s Brothers. Check out the five top most Independence Day earners…

There is no doubt that by the end of its first week at the box office, the film will be able to enter the Rs 100 crore club or inch very close to it. This weekend there aren’t any big releases, so the film will continue to mint money at the box office which will take its lifetime collection to a great number. In fact, this might just turn out to be Akshay’s most profitable film ever!
