Aditya Chopra’s directorial Befikre starring Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor will release on December 9.

Aditya Chopra’s directorial debut Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a cult classic. While everyone will believe it, Aditya Chopra never thought the film was so magical in any sense. Yes, the director did not believe that his film, which he made with no prep-up, no experience and no tried-tested move was being loved so much back then and even now. But making a film after 21 years, better to call it an entire generation gap, he is pretty scared. Adi Chopra can no longer use the old formulas, the three institutions on which he has always based his movies on – dramatic conflict, heightened emotions and intense romance. So, to make Befikre, the 45-year-old director freed himself from all the past barriers and started from the scratch.

The director realised that now we are living in the times where if a guy would tell the girl to wait till he gets the approval of her father about their relationship, the girl would simply ask him let her know when he is ready, and she would leave. This is a fast world with a fast pace in terms of everything and hence, it was important to not recreate something similar to DDLJ, but give a modern twist to what the director has already worked on. Makes sense, isn’t it?

He tells why Befikre is based in Paris. To start something new, at times, you have to let go of your own identity and that’s what the director also wanted to do. Hence, he took the film to Paris where nobody had information about his past successes. The process of detaching himself with his own identity helped him go back to what he had learned about film-making and experiment, and unlearn what DDLJ or any other of his past films had fetched. However, even he is extremely scared about the film, which is about to release in the next few days.

Usually, an experiment has a very rare chance to work with the Indian audiences. On wonder, Ra.One and Love Story 2050, despite having a new concept, failed miserably for several reasons. But on the other hand, people are also slowly accepting the grave realities that are portrayed in films. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Highway and Dear Zindagi are some examples to prove that.

According to lead actors Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor, Befikre will relate to the youngsters, especially those who are from the ‘Tinder’ generation (as put by the actor) but are the Indian families ready to watch a film with so much of modern age content? This will be answered by the audience when they would walk out of the theatres after watching it. Befikre, starring Ranveer and Vaani, will release on December 9.
