Sanjay Leela Bhansali is teaming up with Delhi-based designers Rimple and Harpreet Narula for Padmavati, which stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.

Ditching his frequent collaborator Anju Modi, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is teaming up with Delhi-based designers Rimple and Harpreet Narula for his much-anticipated magnum opus Padmavati. The film stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, and the designer duo is designing costumes for all the three stars.

“Working in tandem with Mr Bhansali’s vision we have gone through a vast library of reference material, old documents and manuscripts as well as ancient traveller’s accounts to come up with the looks. It has been an intensive and exhaustive process yet creatively very fulfilling as designers. Mr. Bhansali is known for his keen eye for detail, the visuals he creates on the big screen are larger than life,” Harpreet said in a statement.

Sources say that together the three are working on looks that have Turkish influences as Ranveer is playing Alauddin Khilji and those renowned in the 13th century in Chittor for Deepika and Shahid’s looks. “We are very excited to be a part of this prestigious project and hope to be associated with Mr. Bhansali for many more movies to come”, Rimple said.

Bhansali worked with Anju Modi on his last two superhits– Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani– and costumes of both the movies were highly appreciated and she won several awards as well. Before her, the filmmaker, whose films are always high on costumes, collaborated with established names like Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Neeta Lulla.

Meanwhile, the shoot of Padmavati has begun. The film features Deepika as Rani Padmavati of Chittor, while Ranveer will be seen playing Alauddin Khilji. Shahid plays Padmavati’s husband Rawal Ratan Singh.
