Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival has kicked off with a bang. The opening night of the prestigious festival saw a lot of Bollywood celebrities like Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Kalki Koechlin, Anurag Kashyap, Shyam Benegal and Huma Qureshi among others.

Jacqueline Fernandez was the host of the opening ceremony, which was held at the recently restored The Royal Opera House. It is after a long period of 23 years that an event is happening at India's only surviving opera house.

While, Aamir Khan took the stage to present the International Excellence in Cinema Award to Chinese film director and screenwriter Jia Zhangke, Jaya Bachchan presented the award for Indian Excellence in Cinema to Sai Paranjpye.

While addressing the audience, Amitabh Bachchan said that he wishes that the film festival grows with each passing year. He also stressed on having a fixed venue for organizing a festival like this every year. Talking about the portrayal of women in films, ace actor Rahul Bose said that there cannot be place in films for portrayals of women as less than their male counterparts.
