Actor Ranbir Kapoor on love, his sense of style, fashion icons and the secrets of the Kapoor Khandan
Birthday: September 28
Sunsign: Libra
Place of birth: Mumbai
Hometown: Mumbai
School/college: HR College of Commerce and Economics; School of Visual Arts, New York
First break : Saawariya (2007)
One thing that you’ve inherited from your parents.
I’ve inherited everything from my parents! Hopefully, not from other parents (laughs).
One thing about fashion that you’ve learnt over time.
Always underplay.
One thing about walking on the ramp that you’ve figured out now.
Nothing at all! It’s a painful experience because you don’t have any crutches, no characters to hide behind, and no dialogues. Those 50 metres feel like five miles.
Your personal sense of style.
What you’ve probably seen me wearing all my life: sneakers, jeans, a T-shirt and a cap.
O ne thing about the Kapoor khandan that not many of us know.
They’re a mess. It’s like watching a tennis match. They’re constantly fighting and screaming at each other. But there’s also love, like any other happy Indian family.
A role from your father’s film you wish you’d played.
I don’t think I’d be able to play any of his characters. But it would have to be Ravi Nanda from Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai (1981).
Two actors and actresses from your generation that you consider as fashion icons.
Imran Khan, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif.
A character you’ve played that you relate to the most.
Sid Mehra from Wake Up Sid (2009).
A childhood memory you have with your family that you still hold close.
A family holiday I took to Mauritius 15 years back. That was the last time we holidayed together.
A 100-crore film or one that’s critically acclaimed?
A 100-crore film, definitely. The audience has to like the movie.
What would you rather give up: football, washboard abs, or a lifetime supply of pizza?
Washboard abs, any day.
If you were on Tinder, what would your bio read?
I’d be desperate so it would read: Sid has woken up.
You like your women like you like your... Life.
One thing about the film industry that you wish you knew before.
It’s a dog-eat-dog world and it’s hard to find friends here.
T hree words/phrases in your vocabulary that you use the most.
1. You know
2. Umm...
3. F**k it!
Ranbir’s favourites
Designer: Kunal Rawal, for whom I walked the ramp at Lakmé Fashion Week
Song at the wheel: Up&Up from Coldplay’s new album

Thing to do when no one’s watching: If I tell you that, then you’d be watching, no?
Maa ke haath ka khana : I’m a big bhurji paratha fan!
Film dialogue: Jeena yahan marna yahan, iske siwa jaana kahan...
