Maari 2 releases on December 21.
Dhanush is back and how! The actor returns to play the lovable rowdy in Maari 2, a sequel to Maari which released in 2015. And this time, Dhanush has Sai Pallavi, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Tovino Thomas along with him to entertain fans and end the year on a high note, a glimpse of which we saw in the Maari 2 trailer. The action-packed promo has got us excited for the movie.
In the trailer, we are told that Maari has been missing for 8 years. The anti-hero has been escaping the cops and rowdies and settles down at a place a little away from Chennai. In his new home, Maari has new friends and a new love interest in Arathu Anandhi (Sai Pallavi). Arathu is an auto driver and boy, we couldn’t keep our eyes off her as she shares screen space with Dhanush in a shot. Eventually, the duo get married and their sizzling chemistry has got us excited about the movie.
As the trailer progresses, we learn that Maari cannot stay in hiding for too long. That’s when we are introduced to Tovino’s character, Beeja. Tovino’s casting is brilliant as he looks like the perfect competition to our Maari.
The trailer is packed with brilliant music by Yuvan Shankar Raja and we sense a new version of the hit track from 2015, titled Maari Thara Local, is coming our way. The trailer’s highlights were the dialogues. Statements like, “I’m the God of death, Maari defies death. We’re worthy opponents,” “You don’t know about me Maari. I’m a very bad man,” “If you are bad, I’m your dad,” stand out in the trailer. Maari’s popular dialogue "Senjiruven" is the cherry on the icing.

The film is produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films Private Limited and directed by Balaji Mohan. Buzz is that the movie will feature a song titled, Rowdy Baby, a name Sai is seen calling Dhanush’s character by in the movie. The song is reportedly choreographed by Prabhu Deva and sees Sai Pallavi grooving as well.
Maari 2 is slated to release on December 21. The movie will clash with Vijay Sethupathi’s Seethakathi, Jayam Ravi’s Adanga Maru and Vishnu Vishal’s Silukkuvarupatti Singam at the box-office.
