Is it finally happening then? Is Alia finally starring in a Vishesh Films venture for the first time?
We have been hearing for over a year that Mahesh Bhatt is planning a sequel to Sadak (1991) with Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt reprising their roles. Word also had it that Alia Bhatt would be joining the duo in the film. However, there has been no official confirmation whatsoever on this. But looks like the rumours might just be true as both Sanjay and Alia were clicked outside her father’s office earlier in the day. Is it finally happening then? Well, your guess as good as ours. While we all wait for an official announcement, check out the pictures of Alia and Sanjay outside Mahesh Bhatt’s office:
Going by Pooja’s Instagram post from five months back, it’s quite clear that Sanjay is a part of Sadak 2. In the picture we see Sanjay and Mahesh hugging each other. “And the smile says it all! Thank you @maheshfilm for the most heartfelt screenplay with a narration to match! #Sadak2 is certainly your ode to @duttsanjay if ever there was one! This story immortalises Ravi and especially his overwhelming love for Pooja… a much needed love story for the ‘unfeeling’ times we live in! #Sadak2 #puresoul #❤️ (sic).” read the caption on her post. Check it out right here:
As for Alia, Mahesh in an earlier interview had said, “No, Alia is not going to be a part of this film. But it is going to bring back Pooja in a dazzling new avatar.” But there seems to be a change in this bit of the plan. We really hope that Alia ends up starring in Sadak 2. It will be interesting to see her with her sister and Sanjay. Also this will be the first time that she will be a part of a Vishesh Films venture.
Talking about Sanjay’s role in Sadak 2, Pooja in an interview had said, “We are making Sadak 2 in which we are showing Sanjay Dutt in his true and present time (Sanjay Dutt is Drug Abuse Survivor) so we are dealing with issue of depression in that film but we are making a commercial film,” she said. We have to make our point and we chose film as our medium because when you choose a mainstream format then your message goes deeper and wider, she added.
Mahesh Bhatt directed Sadak, while the sequel will be directed by Pooja. There were speculations that Mohit Suri was being considered to helm the movie, but Bhatt Saab is keen on Pooja directing it. The first part that was released in 1991, had Sanjay playing the character of a young man in love with a sex worker (played by Pooja Bhatt) and fights against all odds to be with her.
