Sridevi’s daughter, Jhanvi Kapoor’s debut has been riddled with a lot of speculations over the past two years. The aspiring actress is all set to enter Bollywood with a Dharma Productions’ venture. She has been cast opposite Shahid Kapoor’s brother, Ishaan Khattar, who has worked in the international film, Beyond The Clouds. The two young actors have been roped in for a Hindi remake of the critically acclaimed Marathi film, Sairat. The Hindi adaptation is titled Dhadak and Karan Johar is all set to make the official announcement today, at 5 PM. Director, Shashank Khaitan, of badrinath ki dulhania and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania fame, will be spearheading the project.
Going with the original plot of the film, Jhanvi will be playing a high-spirited, tom-boyish girl. We have earlier shared a video of the young diva taking biking lessons for the role. Unlike Sairat, the plot of Dhadak will be set in Haryana, though the basic premise of caste-divide will be the same. We are so excited for this film to go on floors.
“Just saw four teaser posters of KaranJohar’s adaptation of Marathi Sairaat, starring Jahnavi & Ishaan, and to be directed by Shashank Khaitan. Just too exciting and enigmatic. What’s the title? I’m not revealing just as yet! (sic)” Komal Nahta tweeted earlier in the day.
While fans can’t wait to see Dhadak, the director of Sairat, Nagraj Manjule, doesn’t seem too excited about the remake. Point to note is that Punjabi and Telugu remakes of Sairat failed to do as good as the original. “I wouldn’t know why but it would be interesting to conduct a research on why films that do well in one language cannot get the same results in others,” Nagraj had told Mumbai Mirror, earlier.
While talking to the daily, the ace director said, “I have no expectations from the film, only best wishes for the team.” The director’s inhibitions might also be pertaining to the fact that Karan Johar plans to SHIFT BASE OF THE STORY TO A MORE URBAN SETTING than the original.
