The powerhouse actor Rajkummar Rao seems to be on a roll this year. The actor, who enthralled us with his performances in films like Trapped, Behen Hogi Teri, Bareilly Ki Barfi and others has won the best award for his portrayal of Newton (Nutan) Kumar in Amit Masurkar’s Newton at the 11th Asia Pacific Screen Awards. The actor shared the image of him kissing the award on his official twitter handle and captioned it, “Won the best actor award at the most prestigious #APSA2017 (Asia Pacific Screen Awards). Thank you Maa. Thank u team #Newton. Don’t stop chasing your dreams because they really do come true.”
Apart from the Rajkummar Rao, Mayank Tewari and Amit V Masurkar also won the award for best screenplay for Newton. Rajkummar dedicated the award to his late mother and said in his acceptance speech, “Let’s keep doing this beautiful work, let’s keep making these wonderful stories. Here’s to cinema!”. For those who don’t know, Newton is also India’s official entry for the Oscars in the foreign-language category.

Apart from garnering huge critical acclaim in the country, Rajkummar Rao’s Newton had also become one of the most profitable films of the year. Made on the shoe-string budget of Rs 9 crore, the black comedy went on to collect Rs 22.80 crore at the box office. On the professional front, Rajkummar will be next seen in Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Anil Kapoor starrer Fanney Khan. The film will hit the screens in 2018.
