Judwaa 2 song Chalti Hai Kya 9 Se 12: Varun Dhawan’s recreation of original Judwaa track lacks charisma but works due to Salman’s nostalgia

One of Salman Khan’s most popular tracks in the ’90s was the Tan Tana Tan Tan Tan Tara…Chalti Hai Kya Nau Se Barah from the movie Judwaa. That movie had Salman Khan in a double role, being directed by David Dhawan. Now that the director is making a sequel/reboot (still confused about what to call the movie) with Judwaa 2, it is natural that one of the best tracks from the original has to be retained in the sequel. So Varun Dhawan steps into Salman Khan’s shoes and giving him company is none other than the two lovely ladies who will be romancing him in the movie, Jacqueline Fernandez and Taapsee Pannu.

Varun Dhawan fans know that he is a terrific dancer, having also played the lead in Remo D’Souza’s dance movie ABCD 2. jacqueline fernandez and Taapsee Pannu are no slouches either when it comes shaking your leg. So Chalti Hai Kya 9 se 12 reboot works to some extent just to see this trio dance. The song presents two scenarios, when the Raja Varun Dhawan is shown dancing on the stage with Jacqueline, and later joined by Taapsee. Then there is the another scenario, where the Prem Varun Dhawan is seen incarcerated in a British jail, and thanks to the connection with his brother, he is also dancing to his sheer disbelief.

However, unlike the original track, the recreated song lacks the charisma (recreated by Sandeep Shirodkar feat. Anu Malik) and the singing feels lazy. Apart from the dancing, what works the best here is that it will certainly be a nostalgia trip for Salman Khan fans. If only the star had made a cameo here…

Judwaa 2, scheduled to release next month, will also be recreating another song from the original movie, Oonchi Hai Building. Let’s hope the makers do a better job with that. Also 9 se 12 refers to a movie show. Wonder which movie runs for three hours these days… perhaps an Ashutosh Gowariker movie!
