Ranbir Kapoor to begin shooting for Sanjay Dutt’s drug addiction phase in New York

Ranbir Kapoor who had been shooting for Sanjay Dutt’s biopic, had taken a break where he had to promote his upcoming movie, Jagga Jasoos. Jagga Jasoos is releasing on July 13 and also happens to be Ranbir’s maiden production. Now that the promotions are nearly done with, Ranbir is now going to New York to be a part of the IIFA 2017, as reported yesterday. However, there is another purpose in the visit, as he will also be shooting for certain portions of the movie.

As per Mid-Day, the portions that he will be shooting there will depict one of Sanjay Dutt’s life’s darkest phases. If you are aware of Sanjay Dutt’s drug addiction phase in the ’80s after his debut in Rocky, you would be knowing that he was admitted in a rehab in New York. It will be these portions that Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor would be shooting in the Big Apple. These will be some of the most intense scenes in the biopic. Vicky Kaushal, who plays Dutt’s friend in the movie, and Anushka Sharma, who plays a journalist in the movie, will also be joining him there.

The Sanjay Dutt biopic will be an unusual project Rajkumar Hirani is handling since it is a biopic and will follow a very different format of his previous movies (a confused soul questioning the flawed system). The movie, which is scheduled to release next year, also has Paresh Rawal and Manisha Koirala playing Dutt’s parents, Sunil Dutt and Nargis. Dia Mirza will be playing Dutt’s wife Maanyata in the movie. The movie also stars Sonam Kapoor, Karishma Tanna, and Jim Sarbh, and is produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
