Phillauri amid all speculations manages to do a decent business on the day 1 of the release.
Anushka Sharma’s second production venture Phillauri has collected Rs 4.02 crore on the first day. The first-day collection of Phillauri is higher than Kahaani ( Rs 3 crore – Kolkata), Tanu Weds Manu ( Rs 3.2 crore -Kanpur), NH10 ( Rs 3.35 crore -Gurgaon) and Sarbjit (Rs 3.69 crore -Tarn Taran) which had a female actor as the main protagonist. The film did particularly well in North India and Punjab given Diljit Dosanjh’s popularity in this belt. The north India has contributed around 52 percent of the total first-day collections. The film’s collection in Punjab is also outstanding.
Vijay Singh, CEO, Fox Star Studios says, “Phillauri is a high concept film with a big heart and we are happy with the start that it has had on day one. The film has good word of mouth and it will grow today. It is a fun, family entertainer and a perfect weekend watch for audiences across all age-groups.” Phillauri is made at a cost of Rs 21 crore and has already recovered Rs 12 crore from satellite and music rights .According to the box office, the movie's gross first day collection is on a lower side but has performed better in East Punjab and Delhi- thanks to Diljit soaring popularity in the North. However, the figures were comparatively lower in fact below the mark in the rest of the country. In fact, the figure is disappointed in places like Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru where the numbers are below when compared to an all India opening for NH 10 which was INR 3.25 crore nett. The film is expected to show growth on the weekends- as we hear the chemistry between Anushka and Diljit has been appreciated by the audience. It is highly imperative for the film to register growth in Mumbai and Delhi sector, which is a huge market for the film business. We don't see the collections in East Punjab circuit getting affected anytime soon.
According to box office India's prediction, the film probably needs growth of around 40% today to have a decent weekend.
Phillauri is a story of a young man played by Suraj Sharma, who is forced to marry a tree, wherein he confronts Shashi- the Bhoot. The movie is said to have a good plot. However, it is yet to be seen if the movie is able to fare well when it comes to box-office numbers.
