Shah Rukh Khan gives it back to Twitter trolls

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan hit back at Twitter trolls who have lately questioned his patriotism and called him a traitor, after he was launched as the face of a new telecom services brand.

"I follow my Freedom Fighter father's advice 'quieter u bcome the more u r able 2 hear'. Good he's no more, he'd be sad 2 hear wot sum ppl say (sic)," retorted @iamsrk on Twitter in the wake of the negative comments.

WHY THE TROLLS?

The trolling started happening after Reliance Telecommunications last week launched SRK as the face of their new 4G internet service Jio, and has been trending over the past couple of days through #JioRemoveSRK.

Trolls addressed Reliance managing director Mukesh Ambani, asking him to remove Shah Rukh as brand ambassador of the product because the actor had last year voiced his opinion that India was becoming intolerant as a nation. Many of them even claimed SRK was pro-Pakistan.

Shah Rukh finally broke his silence on the issue and answered all his haters with one dignified tweet.

The tweet brings back to recall the fact that SRK's father Meer Taj Mohammed Khan was part of the national freedom struggle, having fought the British in undivided India in Peshawar.

Shah Rukh is right now busy shooting for Imtiaz Ali's next film The Ring in Amsterdam, and that is probably the reason he chose to reply via social media.

Although the superstar remains contemporary Bollywood's most popular representative in the global market, his viewpoint last year that he felt India as a nation had become more intolerant than before has brought him widespread ire.

Right now, Shah Rukh's next release in November is Gauri Shinde's Dear Zindagi. The film also features Alia Bhatt. While he is shooting The Ring opposite Anushka Sharma, his first release in 2017 will be Raees, Rahul Dholakia's drama that casts him opposite Pakistani debutant Mahira Khan.
