In case you are confusing this film with the 2016 film The Jungle Book, we should tell you that these are two entirely different movies.
Even before the first official trailer of Mowgli could make its way online, a leaked versioncreated ripples on the internet. Now, the full-fledged trailer has released and viewing it in full HD is an awesome experience. Andy Serkis is directing the movie, which will release in October this year — more than two years after Disney released Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book. Initially, the movie had a different title- Jungle Book: Origins- but Andy Serkis’ upcoming film retitled it as Mowgli.
The film will feature voice-overs and motion capture performances of Christian Bale as Bagheera, Cate Blanchett as Kaa, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, Naomie Harris as Nisha, Andy Serkis as Baloo, Peter Mullan as Akela, Jack Reynor as Mowgli’s brother wolf. The live action performances will be by Eddie Marsan as Vihaan, Tom Hollander as Tabaqui, Freida Pinto as Messua and Matthew Rhys as Lockwood.
The film is based on Rudyard Kipling‘s classic 19th-century tale of the boy who grew up in the jungles of India. Mowgli is a darker retelling of the story and it is evident from the little footage we have. “We wanted to engage more closely with Kipling’s book. It is not so much of a child’s fairy tale. This has a reality to it. There are real consequences. It is definitely different from Kipling’s book and has a much darker approach,” said Serkis in a behind-the-scenes video.

“There is no singing and dancing by the animals that is for sure. After creating (characters) Caesar and Gollum, this is what I was most drawn to. I can’t believe how lucky we are to have our key cast,” he added.

In case you are confusing this film with the 2016 film The Jungle Book, we should tell you that these are two entirely different movies. Mowgli is NOT a sequel to or a part of 2016 film, The Jungle Book, in any way. Yes, two different live-action movies on the same topic were in the making. And to be honest, Mowgli looks just as interesting as TJB, if not more. Surprisingly, the new rendition of the story seems to be darker than 2016 one, which had a more fun, musical vibe.
