Everyone in Bollywood assembled to pay their last tribute to Shashi Kapoor.
Yesterday, Bollywood’s eternal charmer shashi kapoor, left us for his heavenly abode. It’s a great loss to Bollywood because the actor was loved by everyone. There’s hardly anyone who wasn’t fond of Prithviraj Kapoor’s youngest son. He was not only a fab actor but also a thorough gentleman. His dimpled lopsided smile made our hearts flutter. For us, he was the one who could stand up to Amitabh Bachchan’s paisa, gaadi and bangla, with just Maa on his side in Deewar! But apart from that, he was the best friend Amitabh Bachchan had in all his films – the friend who was ready to do anything for him in films like Suhaag, Do Aur Do Paanch. Every film that they acted in together were amazing in their own right. But films like Sharmilee, Jab Jab Phool Khile, Abhinetri, Aa Gale Lag Jaa did justice to the amazing acting talent that he was. His departure from this world has left a huge void. His pretty smile is something which will stay with us forever.
Celebs mourned his loss on Twitter with everyone calling him the charmer. But we were waiting for Amitabh Bachchan’s reaction since he has many memories attached with Shashi Kapoor. AB wrote in his blog, “‘Shashi Kapoor!’ was what one heard as he extended a warm soft hand out to you in introduction; that devastating smile complimenting the twinkle in his eyes. He needn’t have done so. Every one knew him. But this was his infectious humble self. When he spoke, there was a mischievous, gentle, almost inaudible, delicate, yodel, in his voice – most endearing and comforting to the one he was introduced to. The self introduction habit was a gem. The one being introduced to, was, quite obviously, prompted to say his or her name as well, when they heard his.” These tales are so heartwarming that you won’t be able to stop the feeling of loss that creeps in the moment you read this.
The funeral of the actor took place today and attended by many from the industry. Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Naseeruddin and Ratna Pathak Shah were the first ones to reach the venue for the funeral along with Rishi Kapoor. Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek, Ranbir Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan soon followed. Shah Rukh Khan too made it to the funeral. Check out the pictures right here…
Speaking to Mid-Day, Shyam Benegal’s daughter, Rinki Roy Bhattacharya, recounts how Shashi Kapoor’s wife’s demise had affected him dearly. She says, “Jennifer’s absence in Shashi’s life has been critical. Her passing left Shashi heartbroken. Jennifer had a tremendous sense of discipline. It was she who instilled in him the idea that Sunday was a family day. They would often have amazing food for lunch on Sundays. However, the only breakfast Shashi was allowed by Jennifer was a cup of coffee and two un-buttered toasts to maintain his lean physique. This was his routine for many years.”
May you rest in peace, Prince Charming!
