Today, Padmavati has been banned in Madhya Pradesh

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati continues to face criticism and backlash from self-vigilant groups and parties. While yesterday the makers of Padmavati decided to push the release of the film so that the situation could calm down, it seems like the protesters are not ready to give any chance to film. Today, Padmavati has been banned in Madhya Pradesh, which means none of the theatres in the state will screen this historical drama, whenever it releases.

The protesters claimed that underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim, has invested in Padmavati and their (Rajput Karni Sena) head has received threat calls from Pakistan for opposing the film’s release. “We have heard the movie’s release date (December 1) has been postponed. We will be on the streets as soon as a new release date is announced. All we want is a complete ban on the film. We will not allow the release of Padmavati at any cost,” said the founder of the RKS, Lokendra Singh Kalvi. He further said, “I got three threat calls from international numbers – one from Karachi, which indicates Dawood’s money is involved…What is the interest of a man sitting in Karachi in bumping me off?”

Lokendra also said that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s team had earlier assured them in writing that they will hold the pre-screening of the trailer for them but it didn’t happen. “Bhansali’s team had, on January 30, assured us in writing, that he will pre-screen the trailer and the movie and take the Rajput organisations into confidence before releasing it. But he did not did do so.” Shri Rajput Karni Sena’s head claims that film has distorted historical facts and it will not be tolerated by them, “We will not allow distorted facts to be shown in the film at any cost and will see to it that the film is not released,” he reiterated.
