Kahaani 2 starring Vidya Balan collected Rs 4.25 cr on Friday with a limited release of 1235 screens across the country. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh shared, ” #Kahaani2 Fri ₹ 4.25 cr [1235 screens]. India biz… Picked up in evening/night shows.”
After Rock On 2 and Force 2 failed to make it at the box office with demonetisation playing a spoilsport, Kahaani 2 starring Vidya Balan released this Friday. Being sold as a taut thriller, the Sujoy Ghosh film comes a week after Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dear Zindagi which managed to earn Rs 47 crore in one week.
Kahaani opened average at the BO with theatres witnessing 15-20% occupancy in the morning shows across India. Kolkata, where the film is set, gave a much better reception to the film with occupancy ranging between 40 to 50 per cent on day one. From now on, the film’s performance will depend on the word of mouth and reviews as the Kahaani franchise already enjoys a lot of popularity.

Since the movie comes as a relief from all the heavy romantic and action-packed dramas, it is expected that the movie will open with a decent collection between Rs 7-9 crore. Also, Kahaani 2 has managed an average of six to nine screen numbers in most multiplexes which raise its chance of collecting decent numbers in the opening weekend.
Meanwhile, Sujoy remains unaffected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation move. “I don’t think demonetisation will affect my film. It’s all about priority so if people would really want to watch it, they will definitely go to theatres. It doesn’t matter if there is a currency problem in the country,” Sujoy Ghosh told media prior to the release of Kahaani 2.
“There are difficult times and something is always going on in the country so I think we shouldn’t give it a much thought. Many people have appreciated the trailer so I hope they will go to the theatres,” Sujoy added.
Kahaani 2 is an edge-of-the-seat thriller starring Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal in the lead roles. The movie is supposed to be Vidya Balan’s comeback in the industry after delivering a series of box office disasters.
